Jay-Z Is Officially a Licensed Sports Agent

Jay-Z wasn’t kidding when he tweeted about
making “new rules,” turns out the proclamation
applies to every facet of his career.
In less than six months, Sean Carter has
transitioned from minority owner in an NBA team
to official sports agent. Roc Nation Sports
president Juan Perez confirmed to ESPN.com
that Hov has indeed earned his certification to
work as an agent for athletes in the NBA.
Additionally, a rep for the MLB Players Association
confirmed Jay is cleared to rep baseball players.
What’s unknown is when the 43-year-old will be
able to start working with athletes. As of
Wednesday (Jun. 19) he had yet to unload his
less than one percent stake in the Brooklyn
Nets, a necessary move since NBA agents are not
allowed to have ownerships in teams.

‘World War Z’: Inside The Emotional Final  Act

Even if you’re only vaguely aware of the
development phase of the movie business,
chances are you’ve heard reports that “World
War Z” endured a number of production
problems, including some reshoots of its final
act.And although moviegoers will likely be
unfazed by any of the on-set troubles by the
time they get to theaters on Friday (June 21),
the film’s shift in focus from a global scale to
something decidedly more intimate is
impossible to miss. (Those who haven’t seen
the flick should be warned: mild spoilers
ahead.) The filmmakers acknowledge that was
intentional, even if they were forced to make
that decision because of events outside of
their control.
In “World War Z”‘s climactic sequence, Brad
Pitt’s character infiltrates a medical facility
looking for materials that may lead humankind
to a cure for the worldwide zombie
epidemic.Director Marc Forster recently told
MTV News that they opted to go in a quieter
direction because they felt like they’d already
accomplished what they set out to on a grand
scale. “You know we originally we had this big
battle there, but we had it already in Israel, so
it’s almost [like] you’re repeating yourself
again,” he explained.”I thought a more
intimate, character-driven moment, and [Pitt]
and the Z one-on-one is more interesting
psychologically and emotionally than having a
huge third-act set piece, because every movie,
every big blockbuster does it, and I thought it
would be better this way.”Damon Lindelof was
one of two writers (along with Drew Goddard)
brought in to give that “intimate” ending new
life, so to speak. He observed that while the
rest of the film did an amazing job of creating
a sprawling epic against which Pitt’s character
could play hero, the ending really needed to
be equally scary but on a more personal
level.”I think that the writers that came before
us, from [author Max Brooks’] book to Matt
Carnahan’s script, we would have done exactly
the same thing those guys did. [But] we had
the benefit of coming in at the end with a very
targeted result,” admitted Lindelof, who may
be best known as the co-creator of the TV
series “Lost.””I think that if you’re going to
have a Brad Pitt zombie movie, there’s no way
that he’s going to be able to beat billions of
zombies,” Lindelof continued. “So it felt like
the thinking was, ‘Let’s scale it down, let’s
make it a little more intimate.’ Some of our
favorite zombie films and TV shows are just
about a small group of people versus a small
group of zombies, which can be every bit as
terrifying.”Meanwhile, Mireille Enos, who plays
Pitt’s wife, offered a more succinct explanation
for the change, and one that thematically
makes the most sense. “Actually, it’s the
appropriate scale. … Keeping it within the lines
and telling this family story, this third act does
that job,” she said.

One Direction, Rihanna, Drake Celebrate Miami Heat’s NBA Championship

The Miami Heat wrapped up their third NBA
Championship — and second of the LeBron/D-
Wade/uh, Bosh “Big Three” era — on Thursday
night, closing out the San Antonio Spurs in a
grueling Game 7.This was, of course, met with
much jubilation by the Heat’s celeb fans, who
took to Twitter to revel in the team’s victory.
Others, like Drake, attempted to join the
celebration in the Heat locker room, only to be
turned away in spectacularly hilarious fashion
(don’t worry, Drizzy eventually ended up
partying with LeBron and Dwyane until the
wee hours of the morning).Rihanna
congratulated the Heat on Instagram, posting
a pic of her mean-mugging in a LeBron James
jersey (and Heat sunglasses), and writing to
the two-time Finals MVP “I tried to tell ’em
King! They didn’t hear me doe! Shout out to
you for giving us yet ANOTHER legit reason to
talk that s—!” She also added several
hashtags, including #HEAT, #KING, and, of
course, #PhuckASpur.
Justin Bieber
was actually at Game 7, though the on-court
action apparently left him speechless, as all he
could tweet was “Great game.” Meanwhile,
One Directioner Niall Horan was much more
verbose, posting a lengthy congratulatory
tweet that read “Go Heat! Lebron James is a
monster! Talk about stepping up to the mark
under pressure,” and posting an adorable
Instagram pic of him decked out in Heat gear.
Of course,
there were a whole lot of Miami residents
rejoicing, too, including Rick Ross ( very
demurely), DJ Khaled, who went ALL CAPS, Flo
Rida’s manager, Lee “Freezy” Prince — who
loves the Heat so much he was willing to fight
about it — and, of course, unofficial Miami
ambassador Pitbull, who was ready to party.
Its all about @MiamiHEAT back to back world
champs @NBA daaallleee
— Pitbull (@Pitbull) June 21, 2013Ed Sheeran
was watching Game 7, too, though, he
obviously didn’t grasp the gravity of the
situation, tweeting “I’m watching a basketball
game, I haven’t a clue what’s going on.”
Meanwhile, noted Heat antagonizer Lil Wayne
has refrained from weighing in on the team’s
championship, instead using Twitter to send a
happy birthday message to his “lil homie
Cameron.”

Wizkid invited by policemen at Zone 2 Command today

Wizkid and his manger Godwin Tom were invited
by men of the Nigeria Police Force – Zone 2
Command, Onikan, today June 19th after
students of the University of Lagos reported the
music star to the police.
The students claim that Wizkid collected N500,
000 from them as full payment for a show that
was supposed to hold at UNILAG Sports Centre
on May 21st tagged Concert of Life. They claim
Wizkid didn’t show up for the show and didn’t
return their money so they went to the police.
Wizkid was at Zone 2 for a few hours this
afternoon with his team. He was bailed by his
lawyer after he wrote a statement and was asked
to report back to the station next week. someone privy to the
case said they believe an impostor collected the
money and not Wizkid. Hopefully, Wizkid’s camp
will eventually release a statement clearing the
air.

Italian designers Dolce&Gabbana sentenced to prison for tax evasion

Italian fashion designers Domenico Dolce and
Stefano Gabbana, the men behind fashion power
house, Dolce & Gabbana were today June 19th
sentenced to one year and eight months in
prison by an Italian court after being found
guilty of tax evasion. They were also fined
€500,000.
The multimillionaire designers were accused of
hiding millions of euros from Italian tax
authorities, charges they deny and have said
they intend to appeal against any conviction.
Italian authorities are accusing them of moving
their brand to a Luxembourg-based holding
company Gado – in 2004, so they could avoid
declaring taxes on royalties of about 1 billion
euros.
The Italian authorities have been investigating
the designers for about six years now and they
were actually cleared of tax evasion/fraud
charges at a previous trial in April 2011 but
Italy’s highest court overturned that ruling,
ordering that the case be sent back to trial.
Their sentences have been suspended pending
their appeal.

Hollywood actor Johnny Depp is almost blind

Johnny Depp has revealed he is almost
completely blind in one eye and near-sighted
in the other.
The ‘Lone Ranger’ star, who is rarely
photographed without a pair of tinted glasses,
claims he has been “basically blind as a bat”
in his left eye since birth and the problem is
impossible to correct.
The 50-year-old actor told the July issue of
Rolling Stone magazine that all of his glasses
are prescription and he relies heavily on
them.
He explained: “Everything is just very, very
blurry. I’ve never had proper vision.” The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star, who has
two children, Lily-Rose, 14, and Jack, 11, with
his ex-girlfriend Vanessa Paradis, said he can
only see a few inches from his face if he is
playing a character that does not wear
glasses or sunglasses.
Meanwhile, the actor, who is now dating
actress Amber Heard, also revealed that he
thinks about retiring from Hollywood “every
day”, but is unlikely to do so in the near
future.
He said: “I think while I’ve got the
opportunity and the desire and the creative
spark to do the things that I can do right
now, I should do them. And then, at a certain
point, just take it down to the bare minimum
and concentrate on, I guess, living life. Really
living life. And going somewhere where you
don’t have to be on the run, or sneak in
through the kitchen or the underground
labyrinth of the hotel. At a certain point,
when you get old enough or get a few brain
cells back, you realise that, on some level, you
lived a life of a fugitive.”
But he added: “I don’t know if I can relax.
Relax, I can’t do. My brain, on idle, is a bad
thing. I just get weird. I mean, not weird. I
get, I get antsy.”

Airtel Introduces Single Recharge Option for Data and Voice

Leading telecommunications operator, Airtel
Nigeria, has introduced a dual-purpose single
recharge card for both voice and data services
on the network that will allow customers to
recharge for both services with only one
recharge card.
The Single Recharge Option, another first in the
industry by Airtel, is available in both physical
and electronic recharge formats. The physical
recharge card comes in N100, N500 and N5000
denominations, while the electronic pin (paper)
option are available in denominations of N100,
N200, N500, N1000, N2000 and N5000.
For the Single Recharge, the old process of
recharge for the Airtel voice service still suffices
as customers are to dial *126* followed by the
Recharge PIN and then #. However, to subscribe
for data service on the same recharge card,
customers will need to dial *143* followed by
Recharge PIN and #.
The Single Recharge Option also attracts
applicable bonus rates for data subscription
depending on the amount of airtime purchased.
When customers load between N100 and N500,
they will enjoy 60% data bonus while
subscription of N1, 000 to N5, 000 attracts for
30 percent data bonus.
Speaking on latest innovation, the Chief
Operating Officer and Executive Director, Airtel
Nigeria, Deepak Srivastava, said the latest
recharge option further buttresses the
company’s commitment to continually offer
Nigerians innovative products tailored to provide
them a whole world of value and convenience.
He pledged Airtel relentless drive to deliver fresh
and cutting-edge telecoms technology so to
ensure that its customers continue to enjoy first-
rate products and services, adding that Single
Recharge is another great reason to be on the
Airtel network, especially coming at a time when
Mobile Number Portability (MNP) allows
customers to move over to Airtel for the
conveniences that it offers its customers.
“The Airtel Single Recharge is simply a double
victory for our customers because we have
single-handedly, eliminated the multiple
processes of recharging or subscribing for voice
and data services separately, by merging the
two procedures to produce a single and
seamless recharge process for both services
using a single step. This is not only unique but
revolutionary, and can only come from a network
that has got Nigerians proudly covered”, he said.
The Airtel Single Recharge, which is for both
prepaid and postpaid customers, also provides
additional advantage for data customers as it
totally eliminates the process of subscribing for
data using USSD or SMS codes.

2 Chainz, Drake And T.I. Party Hard At Atlanta’s Birthday Bash

ATLANTA, GEORGIA — It’s been a hell of a week
for 2 Chainz, but on Saturday night the Based
on a T.R.U. Story MC returned to his native
Atlanta for a triumphant hoemcoming to
headline Hot 107.9’s annual Birthday Bash
concert; and he added a few big names to the
already star-studded guest list.
Chainz had the fans at Phillips Arena bouncing
out of their seats with crowd favorites like “I
Luv Dem Strippers,” “Spend It” and “Riot” and
could’ve handled the set himself, but instead
chose to share his moment with friends Rocko,
Wale and Drake. The crowd was surprised
when the Toronto MC touched the Birthday
Bash stage for the first time, popping out to
perform the hook for Deuce’s “No Lie.” From
there Drizzy went into a medley of sure fire
crowd pleasers like Lil Wayne’s “Love Me,” DJ
Khaled’s “No New Friends” and his own
“Started From the Bottom,” which prompted a
spirited sing a long from the front row to the
nose bleed section. For Drake it was a chance
to celebrate with a city that he has a deep love
for, a love which he first expressed on his
2009 track “Houstalantavegas.” In fact Drake
has been thinking about moving to the
Southern hip-hop hotspot, his affinity is that
real he says. “Every time I touch down in the
city, I got so many memories. This is really
where I started with Wayne,” he told MTV
News backstage after his perfomance.
“Tonight to kinda give back and be out there
with Chainz and get that look together was
great.”2 Chainz thought so too. “Drake is my
homie, Rocko’s my homie, Wale. I just wanted
to do something different,” he told us, before
he explained the thought process behind
choosing the artists that he did to rock with
him at Birthday Bash. “People always bring
people up, I wanted it to be like a commercial
within my show, but I wanted my commercials
to be dope.”Chainz wasn’t the only one who
provided “dope” moments for the crowd. DJ
Drama curated a set that included a excellent
mix of hometown favorites and out of town
stars. One by one the Gangsta Grillz DJ made
way for Roscoe Dash, Trinidad Jame$, Rich
Homie Quan, the ATL trio Migos, as well as
Meek Mill and French Montana. Not to be
outdone T.I. and his Hustle Gang collective
had their own set with B.o.B. and Young
Dro.With all the excitement Birthday Bash had
to offer however it was 2 Chainz who clearly
owned the stage and even used the occassion
to announce the title of his second LP,
B.O.A.T.S. II: Me Time.It was the perfect cap to
what seemed to be a rollercoaster of a week
for the rapper. Last Sunday 2 Chainz was
robbed in San Francisco and on Tuesday he
was arrested in Los Angeles, on Saturday
however there was absolutely no hint of drama
or worry. When he performed “Birthday Song”
confetti fell from the rafters, signifying some
type of grand finale but the decorated hit
maker continued to go into overtime
performing tracks like Young Jeezy’s “R.I.P.,”
and his own “I’m Different.” For his closing
number Chainz decided on Lil Wayne’s “Rich
as F—” and when it was all said and done he
dropped the mic to the floor, turned around
and strutted off with his usual confident
swagger. “For me it was just about taking a
step forward,” he said.
